Well thanks to my work blocking nearly every useful internet site that I could spend my day ignoring work on, I have not been able to update my blog here as I would have liked. But I miss blogging and I want to make a return. So here is a quick bullet comeback list:

• I got a promotion at work and am back to a salary that is livable; thank goodness for that!
• My dad is currently going through some serious health issues, which I may or may not decide to talk about here.
• I am so so so excited that Barack Obama is now the president.
• I am also super stoked about LOST and 24 being BACK; I will probably talk about these things.

That's about it for now. I need a book to read though - anyone have a good suggestion?

Life, work, brain - all of them have been busy for me thus far during the new year and so I thought I would do a check-in on Vox to see what's been happening. I try to skim all the entries from my neighborhood everyday, but lately time has been waning for me to post a lot of comments. Here's a quick update on what I've been up to:

Working out - I've gone to three different fitness classes in the past three days. I did cycling for the first time last night and I thought for sure my legs would be seizing up today and that I wouldn't be able to walk. Turns out though that it is only my tailbone that is screaming at me today - I'm just glad my office chair is comfy.

Editing my NaNoWriMo Novel - I've edited 71/200 pages and I've begun sending out copies of the partial edit to friends who have requested to read it. I still have a lot of manuscript to wade through, but I'm determined to get it finished within the next week (or two).

Work, you know REAL work - Yeah I figured I would get around to doing some of that now that the holidays are over. No seriously though, I'm working on some exciting projects (one of them involving the use of movable type as a component to our company intranet pages - fun!). I've also been doing some overtime because all of a sudden there is a ton of work to do now that everyone is no longer on vacation.

Working on my 43things list - It's all right here if you want to take a look! I would say that anyone who doesn't have a 43things list and wants to do things to improve themselves, you should just sign up and start using it. It's such a lovely tool, especially for compulsive list-makers like me.

Some of you may remember my frog incident, but this...this beats that story to a pulp. Over in one of our other office locations, the guys have this iguana that they've set loose from her terrarium. She is on her way to a new home, but she'll be at the office the next few days. They were hoping this exciting wildlife display would make it into the company newsletter, but I kindly declined and instead offered a conciliatory mention of it here in my blog. Apparently she's been edging her her way closer to the guys as each minute passes through the day. They think it's cute and that she just wants a little attention; I think it is because she is plotting her attack on how she will rip them limb from limb leaving the entire office in a bloody carnage. Oh did I mention that giant lizards freak me out?

Just working...

After being sick for the past week, I've finally found my groove again at work and I'm cranking out all sorts of good stuff that I want brag about. Keep in mind, I graduated college less than a year ago but already I feel as though I am smoothly assimilating into the business world.

Yesterday I wrote my first real article. I was limited to about 200 words and it was just a short PR article for my company that will be placed in the Placer County business newsletter -- but I wrote it, my work loves it, and it is going to print in October!

Today I worked on a public information brochure for one of the nearby cities. When I got it, it was pretty much a mess and needed to be completely re-written. It was about how the city implemented the use of NEVs (neighborhood electric vehicles) and how it is beneficial that they've chosen to support this alternative form of transportation. But anyway, it is going to be part of a full-color magazine-size pamphlet that will be given out to the masses. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, so I hope the city likes it.

I guess the only kick is that my name won't be on either of these publications, but at least I will have something so I can start a portfolio of all the articles and PR/marketing materials I've worked on.

Now if I could just get inspired to revamp the our qualifications brochure...

Hello froggie

I'm not a big fan of jumping amphibious creatures, especially when I find them in my office! A few weeks ago I was startled to discover a very tiny frog hopping about my office. He had jumped up into my guest chair as if he was there to visit me and have a chat. Alarmed, I shouted out to my office mates across the hall that there was a frog in my office. It was obvious that I wasn't thrilled about my new green friend, so a couple of the gals sitting in my hall did a capture and release mission to get him out of here. I found out after that that this wasn't the first frog sighting and that there would be more. Um, yikes.

So yes, of course there was yet another sighting in my office a few days later. I was up watering my bromeliad when I noticed a little guy basking on one of the leaves. I freaked out and called in my frog rescue squad once again, but this little fella wasn't so easy to catch. First he disappeared in the plant and then he jumped out onto the file cabinets and then jumped behind them. Determined to catch him, my co-workers started diving behind my file cabinets and blocking off exit routes for the frog in the attempts to catch him. It was a pretty amusing series of events, but I stayed back as far as possible to be sure the frog didn't decide to jump onto me. Minutes later, after we'd torn my office apart moving furniture to get the frog, I was once again frog free but also wondering if it was such a good idea to keep so many plants in my office as they were probably attracting the frogs in here in the first place.

Dead froggie

Since then, I haven't had any live frog sightings, but today, as one of my frog-rescue squad gals was heading out to lunch, she discovered a dead, shriveled up froggie that had actually been sitting at the door, just looking out the window hoping to get out. He must have fried over the weekend. Well, anyway, in honor of me and all my froggy mishaps, she decided to give me the dead frog and place it on the corner of one of my planters. Needless to say, I've lost my appetite for lunch and that's why I'm here recounting all my adventures with the little green monsters.

I knew I'd find a use for my video camera phone someday! I like my office much better than the old dark cubicle I used to live in when I worked for the state.
